The 20 Coolest Cloud Platform Vendors Of The Cloud 100

CRN Magazine just finished their round up of the Cloud 100 companies for 2013.

Again this year, LongJump is made the list of 20 Coolest Cloud Platform Vendors.

You might be saying to yourself – “that’s terrific I also want to do business with a cool company!”   That’s great – call me right now.  Or, you might be thinking, “cool” by whose standard and how can a cloud platform be cool at all.  Good question.

Around here we don’t feel too cool. We sometimes feel very nerdy.  Let’s face, any discussion of application platform development topics can very quickly get very […]

Platform as a Service Takes on More IT Responsibilities

We of course believe in application platform as a service and we’re one of the first companies to launch a modern, multi-tenant, PaaS.  So we’re very happy to hear that the analysts are predicting that 2013 will be a banner year and that enterprises are coming to realize the benefits that aPaaS can deliver to their operations.

“Adoption of software as a service amplifies the requirement of extension, management, integration and composition of cloud-based or hybrid software.  Enterprise IT planners and application architects should be familiar with its capabilities and use patterns. – Yefim […]

It’s always nice to be recognized for your hard work. So we were very pleased when Network World released their round up of the 10 Most Powerful PaaS Companies.

As many of you know, LongJump provides Platform as a Service to many of the world’s largest companies and it’s a great honor to be recognized along with other prestigious companies.

“Platform-as-a-service is the least mature of the major cloud services categories. There are multiple types of PaaS, and vendors are playing in more than one sub-category, so it’s not easy to tell the players without a scorecard. Here are 10 companies […]

Know Your History, Using the PRIORVALUE() Function

One deeply set feature in LongJump is the ability to find out what the value of a previous field was. It’s immensely helpful, however, when you’re building data policies to be notified of changes to records, but only specific changes. To accomplish this, you’d use the PRIORVALUE() boolean function in LongJump’s formula expression engine.

To demonstrate, I’ll actually use a real world example: ours.

When users sign up for a free trial on LongJump, a record is added in the backend, and we store the information about them as if they were a […]

Javelin and Relay Media Coverage Roundup

The advent of social (Relay) and mobile (Javelin) interfaces to LongJump’s PaaS and Online Database solutions has gotten some good write-ups by members of the technology journalists. Here’s a sample of who’s covered the release.

  • David Strom at ReadWriteWeb noted “Relay has the look and feel of a Facebook or Twitter news feed that is increasingly being used for […]

Multitenancy – Still Top of Mind for SaaS Businesses

You may argue the difference between SaaS and the Cloud — about how one is a technology and the other is market-ese — but one factor you cannot argue about anymore is how multitenancy must be the basis for SaaS business software going forward. In September, Oracle CEO Larry Ellison, at their conference Oracle OpenWorld, had the IT world a-buzz about how multitenancy is not secure.

Says Ellison:

“Multitenancy is a horrible idea. What it means is, everyone’s data is commingled, everyone’s customer list is in a single database. That’s a horrible security model. In the […]

Creating Custom Web Forms with Associated Workflow

A lot of businesses need a means to have external people submit requests via a public website or blog. This might be a “contact us” page or a work order or any number of uses. Most webmasters will create a simple CGI script or a mailto form which generates a file or an email, respectively. The problem is that the person receiving that entry has to then manually copy the information into a database or spreadsheet. If the backend changes, for example, you need to add a field or change an acceptable value, then you have to change everything.
